New Director of Outreach
Since Bob Engberg’s retirement last fall, the Transportation Center of Excellence has been diligently assessing and reassessing our team structure in an effort to better serve Minnesota’s industry needs, educational demands, and to more efficiently align our resources in support of the strategic plan of the center. The culmination of these efforts has been the development of a Director of Outreach position.
In March, a search committee of education and industry leaders was formed and reviewed several candidates. During our search, we got the opportunity to meet great people and hear new ideas on how outreach can best be done. We are excited to announce that Steve Hoemberg accepted the position and started working with the TCOE on April 3rd.
Steve earned a Bachelor’s degree in K-12 Vocal Music Education and Vocal Performance from Saint John’s University (MN) in 2001. In 2016, after a very successful career as a public school teacher, he quite literally shifted to a career in the transportation industry. In industry, he had a wide range of responsibilities, including time as a heavy equipment maintenance instructor at Central Lakes College, job-site foreman, heavy equipment operator, oversize/overweight truck driver, and mechanic. He credits his unique background and experiences for giving him a passionate and insightful perspective on outreach. When not working for the Minnesota State TCOE, he serves as the Artistic Director of the Staples Area Men’s Chorus, and is the proud father of two daughters – Molly and Meredith.
Each Minnesota State Center of Excellence is tasked with the mission of engaging industry, enhancing education, and inspiring students. The TCOE staff combines their professional strengths and experiences in a unified effort to meet those goals. Steve will work directly with educators and industry stakeholders to promote the fulfilling career opportunities and high quality educational pathways that Minnesota has to offer. A core goal of the TCOE is to collaboratively find solutions to transportation-related challenges and to serve as that often missing communication conduit between industry and education.
Many of you will be meeting Steve soon. He is already traveling all around the state reaching out to educators and industry partners. Development of the 2019-2020 outreach schedule is already well under way, so if you have any events you would like us to be a part of, please use the contact form on the minntran.org website.
Please join us in welcoming Steve to the TCOE team!
