The New ASE Entry-Level Certification Program

Well, it’s finally here! Oh wait, did you know it was even coming? Maybe or maybe not. Either way, it’s more than justa name change.

Formerly known as ASE Student Certification, this was the test we all had students take at the “End of the Program” (and even more formerly known as End of Program testing). The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Entry-Level Certification tests are designed to indicate a satisfactory level of practical knowledge-based readiness for the workforce in candidates seeking a career in the automotive service industry.

The best news is that the test aligns with program accreditation standards and is now available for automotive, collision repair/refinish, and medium/heavy truck. The cost per test is also lower if you are an accredited program.

The coolest part of the new program is that you can order different tests for the different situations that you are in and what your school wants to evaluate. Whereas before, you could not do this. You can order the traditional End of Program tests, but you can also order an End of Course test, and you can order Pre- and Post- Tests, or any other combination.

So, the next time your advisory committee or an administrator asks you about course or program evaluation, you can say “I’ve got this!”.
