Connecting Industry & Education: Lube-Tech

In our April 2019 newsletter, we highlighted a new program that was designed to boost the quality of the entry-level technician. Lube-Tech, a Minnesota based company that is the leader in resources for advanced lubrication and energy solutions, had engaged with the TCOE as a partner in figuring out what they could do to enhance graduating students in technical education. The outcome was a project where Lube-Tech created a “starter kit.”

The kit was designed to help jump start the careers of technicians in automotive technology, auto body collision repair, diesel technology, and marine/small engines/powersports. The kit included several key items and lubricants that entry-level technicians need in their jobs.

After the April 2019 TCOE newsletter article and spreading the good news about the program, Lube-Tech had great success in getting their kits to technical colleges and high schools. Almost 600 of the kits were delivered this fall to students in the programs.

Because of the Transportation Center’s conveying and connecting us to the schools, we have been able to make connections and assist the schools and students.

With this great success, Lube-Tech has met its goal of getting connected to education. Do you want to get involved? Send a short description of your class and anticipated class size with your name and direct phone number to the contact person below. This information will be used to determine how your class will be supported. Lube-Tech recognizes that there are other non–traditional programs that may have a need for these kits and will accept and evaluate requests for those programs on a case by case basis.

In addition to the Starter Kit program, Lube-Tech also provides a “Lubricants 101” training session for your class and offers tours of their Golden Valley facility that houses a state of the art blending plant, laboratory, and engine testing facility. Last year over 300 students participated in the tours and 500 students and instructors attended the Lubes 101 training. If you’d like more information on these additional resources, please use the same contact information below.
