NextGen Trucking Receives Grant to Expand and Enhance Truck Driver Training Curriculum in High Schools

The NextGen Trucking Association has been awarded a $127,000 grant from Knorr-Bremse Global Care North America (owners or US-based Bendix).  This grant will be used to establish standardized and expanded curriculum for use as truck driver training curriculum in the high schools.  This curriculum is being designed as enhanced career exploration into the trucking company and is designed to be used in partnership with preexisting schools offering CDL training through the ELDT and FMCSA Training Provider Registry.

NextGen Trucking is a non-profit organization with a mission to “promote trucking as a positive career field; to create and partner with career technical education (CTE) programs at secondary and postsecondary institutions; and encourage the training of young people in the trucking industry by connecting them to training and employment opportunities.”  They accomplish this mission through a multifaceted approach:

  • Create CDL driver, diesel tech, and supply chain logistics programs throughout North America
  • Promote trucking as a career technical education choice
  • Focus on diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Educate high school administration, teachers and counselors, students and parents on the benefits and opportunities in the trucking industry
  • Provide fresh, up-to-date curriculum to create a new wave of CDL drivers, technicians, and supply chain professionals who are trained to the highest standard
  • Connect North American public high schools and the trucking industry
  • Serve as a liaison between young people and trucking partners to provide a pipeline of talented, trained drivers, technicians, and supply chain logistics professionals
  • Foster community for young people in trucking
  • Lobby for the Safe Driver Apprenticeship Pilot Program and Trucking in Career Technical Education
