Shawn Haag Named Executive Director of the Minnesota State Transportation Center of Excellence
The Minnesota State Transportation Center of Excellence (TCOE) is excited to announce our new Executive Director, Shawn Haag.
Shawn Haag brings over a decade of experience in transportation research, program management, and industry partnership development. He has held roles at the University of Minnesota’s Center for Transportation Studies (CTS), the Intelligent Transportation Systems Institute, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering’s T.E. Murphy Engine Laboratory, managing programs in connected vehicles, electrification, and advanced mobility in collaboration with MnDOT and vehicle OEMs.

Shawn has a strong background in educational technology, including integrating AI into teaching and learning, and developing microcredentialing and digital badge programs to advance workforce skill development. He is passionate about building innovation ecosystems that connect higher education, industry, and government, driving collaborative partnerships that deliver real-world impact. Most recently, he served as Executive Director of a National AI Research Institute focused on climate-smart agriculture and forestry and previously held a research program manager role at Meta Platforms, supporting large-scale user experience and technology programs. His academic credentials include a Master of Education in Learning Technologies and Bachelor of Science in Environment Studies from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
He is excited to work alongside his team to advance the Center’s mission of strengthening transportation education, workforce development, and innovative learning opportunities across Minnesota. He’s particularly passionate about integrating AI and emerging technologies into the classroom and workplace to prepare the next generation of transportation professionals.
